Friday was S's birthday and she turned 5. My sister and her family came down from Logan and we went to Lagoon until early afternoon. We came home and the kids swam for a few hours until it started to rain. R called to surprise us with a room at the Marriott Downtown that night so we could watch the Key Bank building go down at 6:30am Saturday morning. We packed up for the night and went downtown. After checking into our room we started to walk to Gateway but it was farther than my sister (who is pregnant and was very hungry) wanted to do so we turned around and we to the Olive Garden that was just two blocks away. We had a yummy dinner with very overactive kids. When we left the Olive Garden it had started raining and of course we weren't prepared enough to have umbrellas and I didn't even have a blanket for the baby so we had to run 2 blocks back to the hotel in the rain. Actually my neice had her favorite Pooh Blankie that is threadbare and scary looking and she reluntantly let the baby use it to cover up. We were quiet the sight when we returned to the hotel. The girls were looking forward to watching High School Musical 2 but the hotel didn't have disney channel and since it was 11:00pm we called it a night. We had two families crammed in the hotel the adults had the two beds and the kids were all on the floor.
The alarm went off at 5:30am and we hit snooze a few times before getting up to see the Key Bank building come down. I think my neice actually slept through it. R almost missed the building coming down. He was going between our room (where we had a good view) and the 15th floor lobby where our boss, his family and the hotel operations manager (who gave us the room) were. He stepped of the elevator walked to the window and the explosives went off so he didn't get it on camera like he had planned. It shook the whole building and was cool to watch. This cloud of dust blew over the city and we couldn't see anything for a while until it setteled. They closed off downtown until about 10:30am so they could clean everything up.
S had her bowling birthday party at 11:30am so after a yummy breakfast buffet we headed home to get ready for her birthday party.
